HERMOSA... LET'S TALK!
Please join our Events:
* Hennessey's Hermosa October 3rd and 24th - Discussion 6:30-7:30pm

Thank you for visiting, as a longtime resident of Hermosa Beach, I believe it is important to give back to our community, which is why I have decided to run for City Council. I believe that having non-career politicians on the City Council can bring fresh perspectives and new ideas to the table.

Let’s have The City Council be the voice of the people, not the career politicians. They have been in overdrive supporting their candidates because they want increased taxes to fund their overspending and their new $125M+ Civic Facilities Project. Runaway government spending is fueling inflation. There seems to be a prevalent attitude on the City Council that Hermosa “CAN AFFORD TO PAY A LITTLE MORE”. I say we pay ENOUGH!

I thank you Hermosa. I am grateful for the opportunity to meet so many wonderful Hermosa Beach neighbors. After the election no matter how you vote, please join us @TheSuperFriendsMusic for the community “Sing-A-Long” to promote neighbors being friends,...SUPER FRIENDS.

Please feel free to reach out to me at I value your input and look forward to meeting and speaking with you.

Together, we can make a positive impact on our community. Hermosa Forever!

Thank you,

Brian Sheil

I love Hermosa Beach. Hermosa has been my home for 30 years. I got married and became a father and built my business here.

I'm not a politician, this is not a steppingstone to any other office. I am choosing to run because my roots run deep in this city, and I believe I can help make a positive impact in this role. I embrace the nonpartisanship of the council seats as I intend to represent ALL Hermosa residents.

I am here to LISTEN to YOU and help the city HEAR YOUR VOICES: THE RESIDENTS.

"Hermosa... you are home".

Public Safety:

I have tremendous respect for our police – they have a tough job. I will vote to fully fund our police department. I support the more aggressive prosecution of county and state crimes locally.

I support Los Angeles County’s operation of our Fire Department. It continues to make sense financially. I have witnessed them saving lives. They are amazing, and their response time is incredible. LA County Fire is Class 3. Hermosa Beach Fire was Class 2. The County has Air, Sea, and Land resources and exceptional training.

Fiscal Responsibility:

I have always been extremely fiscally responsible. As a business owner myself, I understand the responsibilities of making payroll, budgeting for the next job, and people counting on you for their paychecks. Hermosa is performing satisfactorily (on paper).

However, the city is on the edge of the abyss with the proposed $120M+ new civic center. I propose for the city to finish the 55+ Capital Improvement Program Projects approved ahead of a new civic center.

Taxpayer Dollars:

The city has room for improvement regarding spending our hard-earned taxpayer dollars. The city is claiming a balanced budget. I encourage all residents to go online and review the budget. From the summary page alone, the city will spend $22M more than the income for the year. Our Fund Balance will drop $22 million. That is not a balanced budget.

The ¾ cent additional sales tax is on the Nov. 5th ballot. It is up to the residents to approve or deny this tax. Aren’t we taxed enough? Personally what bothers me is when the city uses taxpayer dollars for color printed promotional brochures to ADVERTISE and manipulate us into raising our own taxes and opting us ALL into their CPA (Clean Power Alliance).

It was supposed to reduce our electric bills, I didn’t experience that. In fact, my electric bill went up significantly. The hidden fees, surcharges, and services charges need to be voted on and not summarily added to our bills. For example, if Athens Waste Management is becoming more expensive, we should release a Request for Proposal (RFP) to ensure residents of Hermosa Beach are receiving the best.

Furthermore, the city needs to focus on claiming our money from the state and county to support our unique safety concerns in downtown Hermosa.

Support Local Business:

I believe I have worked for more local businesses than any candidate in history, including working with The Comedy and Magic Club for 25 years, which provides me with a unique and personal experience of working with our city. Business owners and contractors will attest to the difficulties of working with the city: “The city takes too long; there are too many hoops to jump through; and the fees are expensive.” As a council member, I will embrace and uphold the ideology that cities work for their constituents.

Many local businesses are owned by residents, our neighbors, and that is how they make a living. They have invested their livelihoods in our city while also residing here and supporting our city as well. I have plans to streamline the bureaucratic approval process to lessen the time and cost of trying to do business with the city – both for businesses and for residents.

I will strive for better communication, polite interactions, and timely resolutions to permits and planning.

E-Bikes that go over 45mph

Several residents have been hit by kids speeding down the streets on E-Bikes and some seriously hurt, not to mention the serious accidents. We want Hermosa Beach to be safe, especially for our children. If a Tesla is a car, then E-Bikes that go over 45mph are motorcycles and need a license and registration. The police are catching up to this new challenge in our community. It’s better than it was a year ago and if we continue to strictly enforce the ordinances in place for Pier Plaza & The Strand, we will do better.

The Unhoused

Over the years, I have taken the time to listen to the stories of our city’s unhoused from them personally. As such, I know many of them by name, and they know me. The compassionate solution to helping someone who will not accept the help is to find a bed or treatment facility first.

Many of them need food, water, and medical intervention/treatment. The city should not leave the unhoused lying on the streets or sidewalks leaving our public spaces vulnerable. The city can learn from the actions taken by our neighboring cities, Redondo and Manhattan. I have personally spoken to their leadership, and they are willing to help.

I will be the people's voice if you choose me for City Council. Please trust me with your vote!

Thank you and God bless!!

Brian Sheil

Through my entertainment endeavors, I’ve developed strong relationships with many businesses in Hermosa Beach, but foremost, I am your neighbor. I’ve learned to appreciate the importance of managing budgets, addressing risk management, and liability concerns, as well as regulatory burdens on residents and businesses. I want to help foster a more trusting relationship between our city officials, the residents, and businesses.
